Leda Aparecida Fernandes dos Santos Silva comes from a long history of coffee farmers, growing up amidst the coffee trees where she learned the trade from her parents through their work. She grew up to marry a coffee farmer, and together they embarked on their own journey in coffee production at Sítio Três Pinheiros. The 32 hectare farm is planted with 7 hectares of Red Catuai, Arara, and Acauã, with elevations 1000–1350 meters above sea level.
Over time she found that she wasn’t entirely satisfied with their results, and decided to seek knowledge on how to increase productivity and elevate the quality of her coffee. It was during this search that she found AMECAFE Mantiqueira, an organization with the purpose of supporting women producers in Brazil’s Mantiqueira de Minas growing region. With their help she was able to learn and make positive changes at Sítio Três Pinheiros, achieving her goals and establishing a path for continued improvement.
Today, Leda’s family is recognized for their commitment to their trade, and dedication to sustainability at their farm. Though the work is strenuous, they cultivate the coffee love, respect, and care, resulting in quality coffee that they take pride in. These days they still harvest coffee manually, but have acquired the necessary machinery to process coffee at their farm, helping to further bring Leda’s goal of becoming an entrepeneur to fruition. Her company, operating in the open air, is guided by principles of transparency, responsibility, and sustainability, bringing her fulfillment and a deep connection to her product.
