Born in Natércia, Minas Gerais, Antônio Clemente da Silva developed a deep connection to the land from an early age. Recognizing the soil’s potential, he purchased a small plot in 1980 and became the first in his family to grow coffee. Since then, coffee has been his passion and life’s work.
Sítio da Cachoeira, named after the waterfall, that enhances its surroundings, benefits from a privileged location in the mountainous region of Mantiqueira de Minas. The farm’s high-altitude conditions contribute to exceptional coffee quality, earning Antônio recognition in three major coffee competitions. These accolades inspire him to continuously refine his production with each harvest.
Despite his success, Antônio faces significant challenges, particularly with climate variability. Irregular rainfall and prolonged droughts impact his yields, but he remains steadfast in his belief that coffee is a “blessed crop.” Committed to sustainability, he minimizes pesticide use and follows responsible farming practices to protect the environment and ensure the highest quality coffee.
Antônio is married and has two daughters, both living away from the farm. In the past, his wife played an active role in farm activities, but due to health issues, she is no longer able to assist. Today, Antônio manages the farm almost entirely on his own, relying on neighborly support during harvest season.
His greatest hope is that one day his daughters will take over Sítio da Cachoeira, preserving the coffee legacy he has built and continuing the family’s dedication to the land.
