Mário José Zardo is the third generation of his family to work in coffee agriculture. His grandfather, Honorio Zardo, settled a property in the city of Pindobas in the mountains of Espirito Santo. In 1970, Mr. Honorio left the property he had worked in favor of another region, but one of his eleven children— José Zardo, Mário’s father—followed his passion, which was for coffee farming.
José Zardo remained in the community of Alto Caxixe near the city of Venda Nova do Imigrante, where he married Tereza Altoe and cared for 20,000 coffee trees. This is where Mário José was born and raised and learned about coffee cultivation from his father. As José Zardo’s only son, Mário José inspired his father to begin depulping coffee in 2004 in search of improved added value. In 2010, Mário José took over the responsibility for Sitio Sesconetto’s 24,000 coffee trees covering three of the farm’s four hectares.
In 2014, Mário José married Lucinéia Cesconetto and started his own coffee roaster and began to plant coffee together with his father-in-law, inclduing Mundo Novo, Yellow Bourbon, and Catuai varieties. He is always looking for quality, despite the difficulties of finding manual labor and keeping up with crops, and is motivated to produce the best possible coffee.
